Mid-Day Excellence in Education Award – So Much Can be Accomplished in 365 Days!

-->
It’s 30th May, 2018 and, to the external world, the Global Institute of Sports Business (GISB) is still just a concept. While we do have a clear vision of establishing India’s first internationally certified and industry designed sports management education course, we have a solid business plan, we have an international education partner, we have a number of well-wishers in the industry ready to support as Faculty and Affiliates, and even have a name for the Institute which most of us agree on; we do not have three critical elements: a campus, a website and, most importantly, students. Needless to say, at this time, there are a number of sleepless nights and moments wondering how everything would ultimately come together.

Now, fast forward one year, it’s 30th May, 2019 and GISB Chancellor, Gaurav Modwel, and I are on stage alongside Mid-Day’s CEO, Sandeep Khosla, and Politician & Philanthropist, Priya Dutt, being recognized for establishing India’s best Sports Management education program at the Mid-Day Excellence in Education Awards. It is a special evening for our core management team and staff who have spent the past year building an Academic Institute from scratch, identifying 20 individuals to join our first batch, providing them with world-class education & experiences and now working tirelessly to fill the 2019 / 20 batch with aspiring sports management professionals.

The truth is that no one would ever get into education in order to receive awards, however another truth is that no one minds being recognized for something that they are proud of.  To me, this award means that influencers have started to realize the importance of industry-designed education which, in my opinion, is the need of the hour.  I truly hope that GISB winning this prestigious award serves as a catalyst for not only more industry-designed sports management programs to take shape, but for pioneers in other industries to begin designing education institutes that provide opportunities for students to gain in-depth practical experience throughout their course.

And, finally, to anyone reading this right now who has a great concept and associated business plan but very little else, don’t worry, so much can be accomplished in 365 days.
